Mark Isaacs
Mark is an author, a writer, a researcher, a photographer and a community worker. He uses his writing and photography to tell stories of displacement and conflict and shed light on social justice issues all around the world. He has written three books, the first of which was The Undesirables: Inside Nauru (Hardie Grant 2014), a whistle-blowing account of his work with asylum seekers in Nauru, one of Australia’s notorious offshore prisons. His second book, Nauru Burning (Editia 2016), follows up The Undesirables with an investigative report on human rights abuses on Nauru. Several years later Mark wrote, The Kabul Peace House (Hardie Grant, 2019), the story of a community of peace activists in Afghanistan.
Mark appeared in Eva Orner’s 2016 documentary Chasing Asylum and has written for a wide variety of media, academic and literary publications. Mark is studying for a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Technology, Sydney, focusing on people smuggling in the Asia-Pacific region.
Mark is currently developing a comedy series in collaboration with David Adlam titled Jumping the Queue – a dangerously hilarious sitcom tackling the world’s most controversial issue: immigration.
